Katie Kapuza is an instinctive daughter of the Midwest. She was raised in cornfields, studying ants and watching grass grow. She moved to Chicago to pursue urban nature, watching clouds from tall buildings and grasshoppers in parks. A student of observation, she has always been drawing and painting. She accomplished many group and solo shows for her paintings before even thinking of attending college. Katie achieved both a BS in film and an MA in animation from DePaul University, graduating magna cum laude. From there she applied her visual inspiration onto moving images. Katie creates animations, short films, puppets and paintings. She draws from folktales and dreams, her art tending to be fluffy and romantic, surreal and exaggerated, messy and fragile. She is influenced by love, poetry and her grandmother’s recipes.

Katie Kapuza lives and works in Chicago, IL.
